The cleaner that 'Does' next door every week before the holidaymakers arrive has a Nice red one with the canvas roof .... about 13k? Shocked The roof was faulty and it took over four months to get it fixed. Fiats are still Fiats at the end of the day...

Ah, the 500.  An expensive, less practical, worse riding Panda, with 0.8 less BHP than the already feeble 107 in an even heavier car.

Where do you go after that? G-Wiz?

Ah, no, don't get me wrong. The 107 is really pretty nippy, all things considered, but would you really want to buy a more expensive car that is actually slower?

But is it style?  It's a pastiche of something fashinable 40 years ago.

It says "I'm shallow and conform deliberately to the marketing mans ideal, rather than think for myself - I don't car how crap, poor or plain inappropriate a product is, if a man in a sharp suit smelling strongly of Kouross says its the. In thing, then I'm there".

Smog, aerial bombing of civilians and the black death are also old, but we don't see them making a comeback.

A debate for another day because it just makes me angry.  It's communism for consumers, a real dichotomy.

Arial bombing of civilians has never went away for the Americans....such tiny brains shouldn't have so much power. Mind you they can't be that daft they sold us their toxic debt

The Psychology of what cars people buy.
Frankly i think they are smart little cars and wouldn't pass on a free one myself. I can see the appeal. Some people want cars for their looks as Soffit said not just the Conditions set by HD Tongue

Sad to see the car go Nicola!

But if you want a car for looks, buy a good looking or a pretty car.

The 500 is gopping.  It's dumpy and stunted, less attractive than the elegant original.  People buy them for the pereception that it's a hip and trendy thing, no other reason.

I got know issues what people buy - its a free market economy and all that.  My issue is with folk that won't be truthful with the rest of us.

I mean, who would buy a MINI when the Clio 199, as it is now, is faster, cheaper and better suspended?  The MINI sells like hot cakes, despite looking like something that Alec Issigonis shat one morning.  People buy the idea of the lifestyle, or image.  They pay a lot of money for things that aren't even tangible commodities, and usually paying a lot more at that.  It's a marketing man's triumph of garbage over reason, and respect to anyone clever enough to squeeze more money out of the gullible for less actual product on the basis of some 'lifestyle' connotation, which costs the manufacturer nothing, but the buyer 30% more.

Perhaps part of my ire is because I'm angry for not thinking of it myself?

I don't think you should mention Issigonis and the "mini" in the same breath. I suspect he would have been utterly appalled.
