Picked up my new C1 last week.  Smiley

All looked good, but a few days later took a look underneath
The exhaust is rusty.  Sad

Is this normal? or should I ask for a new pipe?

It's an unplated item, a bit like the brake discs, so will begin rusting from the moment it's manufacturered.

Think I'd ask the dealer to confirm the date of manufacture !

Do you live near the seaside ?

Must have dropped it in the Danube accidently on the way to Blighty Cheesy  Exhausts are normally galvanised as a minimum so I would question it at the least...

Register on Servicebox, and pop in your chassis numer for the build date, but that won't tell you when the exhaust was manufactured.

T'is a tricky one to tell from pics alone. It's not a cosmetic item, and unless the corrosion is such that it compromises the life or integrity of the component they'll just punch you in the kidneys and dump your corpse in a skip.

My exhaust is 3years and six months and still breathing. If it had started life like that I think it would be dead by now...

don't live near the sea, well not close enough to be a factor.

The car is a contract hire car, so isn't really even mine. I still have pride in it though,
and also for the sake for the next owner I think it should be in better condition than that

The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if someone swapped it with an older one whilst it was sat around
at the dealers? Probably not.
Maybe it was parked nearest the sea at the port it came into, Avonmouth? don't know where they land
these cars?

anyway, I'm going to take it back as it seems opinion says "it aint right"

cheers guys  Smiley

I've bought 2 107's new and 1 2nd hand. The new were shiny the other a bit dull at 18 months and 6k miles. Not bubbling rust blisters like that one. Funny you thought it had been swapped, my 1st thought too.

Aha!  On the lappie now so I can see the pics.

I don't think it's too bad.  Nevertheless, worth getting it to the dealers to have it properly examined, especially around the flange on the end plate of the silencer unit.  If that joints is flaky, then that poses questions over the longevity of the component.
