Picking up my 107 tomorrow. He is 56 plate, Raven Black and beautiful!  Only started to drive again last year and started off in a Corsa.  Jean Paul, my 107, is the 2-tronic version.  I am very excited and cannot wait to see him again and bring him home.  He will join Pierre a 1995 106 which my husband drives.  he is French, elegant and ouzes style (the 107 that is)

Hi.
Thanks for welcome.
Picked up car today, not quite the smoothless transfer from one car to another that I had hoped for!  My main concern is the way he rolls back on a hill, of varying steepness!  With my previous automatic (Corsa) you could take foot off accelerator and brake and it stayed where it was, perhaps it has made me lazy.  Any advice/tips/suggestions as this is causing me some concern, or is it just a case of getting use to another car and giving it time.

Thanks

It might be the 107 is an automated manual and the corsa was an actual automatic.

Hi Sue, you need to drive it like a manual in these situations. My ex's pal bought an Auto Corsa a few years back and she had concerns about rolling back too. My 1st car was Auto and it could hold on slight slopes, but not steep.
Anyway.... what you need to do is use the hand brake as you would do with a manual. I don't know if you've ever driven a manual box, but what you'd do is set the gas and bite, then release the brake. With your car, have it in drive, give a little gas to make it squat down slightly, then release the hand brake. No more roll back, however steep the incline. Try it .... it might just work. Wink Grin
I've taught some students in their own car, several Auto's, including one 107, never have a problem. Good to hear you're driving it properly and not using Left foot braking. Good Lass, but it sounds like you're holding the foot brake all the time at junctions, lights, etc. and not using the hand brake. Not a problem for a few seconds, but best to use the hand brake and put it in Neutral or Park for longer stops. 3 things wrong with that, 1: making the torque converter work against the resistance of the brake, well not in the 107's case, as it rolls back when releasing the brake. 2: at night you blind the person behind with the high intensity brake lights, 3: when the brake is pressed the pads are retaining the heat in the disc under them preventing the whole disc cooling evenly, which can lead to warped discs, resulting in vibration when braking, more noticed from high speed.

Anyway, enjoy Jean Paul and treat him right, he will do the same for you. Grin Grin
P.S. Sorry for sounding like a Driving Instructor. Tongue

Hi Ali
Thanks for brilliant advice!  I passed my test (1990) in  a manual car, hated it & never drove again, until last year when change of job forced my hand.  Had lessons in Automatic Clio and bought an Automatic Corsa, which you could take your feet off the pedals and it never moved!  So that is what I have got used to.  Love Jean Paul to bits but a tad scared of him now!  I suppose it is just a matter of time and getting used to new methods of driving.  I must admit I didnt know there were different versions of automatic- I though all automatics didnt rollback, by the way, sorry to be a pain but whats what exactly is "creep"? and has Jean Paul got it?

hi susie
welcome to the club, my advice is to use your hand brake when stopped on a hill, then get the bitting point before driving off and releasing the hand brake. i have the same problem with my car, all the others didnt roll back.

Hi John
Thanks for the advice - looks like I am going to have to forget about how my old car drove and get use to this one!
Is the noise level normal and the slightly violent automated gear changes?
Do you know how many members have the 2-tronic version or is it just you & me?!

Hi again Sue, the only 'creep' I know of is a term that was used to describe the car sitting in gear no brakes on and the torque converter straining with just enough revs to move forward slowly. If you had the revs at idle 'tick over' raised, like slightly using the gas pedal, the 107 would do it too and not rollback on hills, but the minus side of it is, increased fuel use with the higher revs when stationary, plus if always left in gear constant straining on the converter, which is like the clutch. You wouldn't sit at lights holding the bite with a clutch until they changed, unless you fancy fitting a new one every year. Grin
I don't know how John drives his, but in town I used full auto, but in winter on slippy roads, and the rest of the year on fun roads, I used the manual shift for more control and engine braking just like a proper manual car.
Don't be scared of Jean Paul, like all new relationships there are always slight doubts, but stay focused keep strong and he'll be putty in your hands before you know it. Grin

Hi Guys
Did what you suggested & guess what it worked!  Feeling a lot more confident and reckon we will be fine together.  Bought him a present for being so good - two lovely red plush heart shaped cushions to go with his lovely shiny black paint.  Guess they should have been old gold as Im a Wolves supporter.  Suppose I could always give him two old gold racing stripes!!!!!

Thanks for all your help.

Sue
