I know didnt say you was, as I said I want people to put their POVs up that way I can see what people think, am no mind reader, and I totally understand your point but my point was this idea was to rectify that, we can put our money into something that will benefit us and the club more. Stoo has stated across all the boards no additional money can be put into the club.

twingo apparently has done something similar, I think their sign up though was £27 am trying to find out more info though

Why not after you've donated you get a special 'Forum Patron' title.

I'd be more than willing to donate - if only for the fact that we could get some professionally printed flyers and banners.

Just out of interest - how many members does the forum have, and more to the point - how many are 'active' (ie. use the forum quite regularly?)

Yeah there will definitly be a title and some stars to show people have dontated, I think my suggestion of Super Member is a bit cheesy though

And Printed flyers is the kind of thing we could be spending the money on

There is 3543 members, Active? well I say we averaged about 20

But again I would like to up that by developing the club.

OK Some information as I mention the Twingo have done something similar using Stoos initial idea he proposed a while back (sadly I think we lost the thread in Adegate) But here is what they offer

Web Membership
TwingoOC Web Membership gets you access to exclusive boards not available to other members, better profile features and loads of kudos in the community. Also by subscribing to the TwingoOC Web Membership you are helping to contributing to the ongoing running costs of the site. Membership is paid through PayPal on a yearly basis and your subscription can be cancelled at any time.
-------- £6.00   .TwingoOC Subscription

Premium Membersip
This subscription is the same as the Web subscription except you get a Welcome pack that includes a welcome letter to the club explaining how the forums works and what exactly the club is about. You get a free TwingoOC URL sticker for your car and a free TOC pen.
This is £12

So for 6 pound more which is a guide donation price and this is what they get in return

I have contacted the twingo OC to see if they can provide any further information / Help

I'd rather just have the option to donate. I just don't need a pen or some sticker with all it attendant costs of postage etc .If the idea is to raise funds why spend part of it on trivia?

I agree on the pen, seems a waste of money, I have enough pens  (all stolen  Cheesy )

Car stickers are nice i think they also help promote the forum and maybe we could sort something low cost with Vamps.  Grin

Would rather the money go on more positive things like banners for meets /flyers etc

I'm not back-pedaling on this but........

Stoo owns three websites that we know about [ here/207/twingo] so does he do it for the love of three cars? [The subs just cover the running costs apparently]or does he do it to make a living off the advertising revenue? In which case he should put his hand in his pocket

I don't think I will donate anything until this is a bit more transparent.

Stoo is a business man who runs a web based forum, he has neither the time nor funding from membership to run a proper car club, this is a way we can run a proper car club.

Stoo will not be paying for anything that isnt web based (and it does cost)

so we either

A) Set up our Proper club part which stoo has given us full permission and even the means to do and we transparently use the money for the club benefit and get special provelages and better club in return

B) the club stays as it is.

C) we set up a different web forum and our own club and do everything like a committe with transperant funding? ( I dont have the time or money to do this but someone else might..

there is no Stoo putting hand in pocket option!

So we all put our hands in our pockets whilst Stoo creams off all the advertising revenue?

We don't have a clue whether he is making a bomb [ so should help build the site] Or having a hard time maintaining the sites[ so needs some help]

In short we are being asked to Improve the club for an owner who hasn't the slightest interest other than pecuniary

I have been looking into the cost of websites and maintaining them he will have to pay for the domain yearly (anywhere up t £100), the smt hosting, the google seaches (about£80 a year depending on option) to name but a few, we get on average and if that one new member a month at £6 and the advertising pays on average 1p per CLICK on an advert..I dont think Stoo is rolling it in!

But that isnt the point, it makes no difference to Stoo whether or not we go down this route or not, 207oc hasnt but the twingo have, I approached him about this arrangement to improve the club he didnt approach me, i want to have more of a proper club not just a web based one and the web based forum is all Stoo is able to provide.

The benefits directly off this potential change are going to us the members of the club not Stoo.

We choose not to go this route and things will remain exactly the same as they are, again doesnt really make any difference to Stoo.

I take your point that any donations go into a separate pot. My beef is as Stoo benefits directly through the success of the club he should help to pay for that. You can guess as much as you like about what this forum costs to run and take a stab at what subs bring in and guess at advertising revenues.... ie we haven't got a clue and just saying subs just covers the running of the site is nonsense.... we simply haven't got a clue. You said youself he is a businessman... doesn't stack up logically does it.

I can understand why people think this, I have at times but in comparative to a lot of forums we do well really, I paid20 to toc for years membership and got some stickers am not saying its right.

And yes Stoo is a business man, but this isnt his business. if car forums where so lucrative we would all be running ne, and I didnt guess they are actually figures I researched!

And if Stoo is a good business man (am sure he is) and this was lucrative then he would be investing where he would see a profitable outcome. There clearly isnt one here hence his lack of pocket reaching.

What we need to decide if we are prepared to pocket reach to make the club they way we want, which again would have no finaical benefit t anyone really just mean we enjoy our club that but more.
