Hey, not just an XS250, but an XS250 US custom no less!

A friends neighbours Dad had passed away.  I got wind and it became mine for £50.  It starts and runs ok, but is pretty shabby.

Not the worlds best bike by a long stretch, but like the Ford Edsell, it's so unloved there are virtually none left, and as a student of Jap motorcycling history it was my duty to save it.

The 'Custom' was the one I had! The rubber mounted handle bars can make for an interesting ride!  Shocked

I remember it was quite a small bike. It always looked slightly further away than it actually was!

Yeah, she's a diddy old smoker, but then a 250 is barely a motorcycle at all by todays standards.

Yer, much the same feelings on MZ's... a pig ugly workhorse with an old-fashioned two-stroke engine that produced decent torque/fuel consumption. Bit like me first love/scoot; a Lambretta 150 Mk11. Stripped of any bodywork that wasn't rivetted.... What a modder I was an only sixteen Cheesy

Ok, some of you may have seem my comment in the shoutbox.

Managed to fray my clutch cable apart on the way home from work tonight! Then my bloomin' hazzard lights didn't work! So my bro drove down to drive dehind me and I limped home clutchless. I'll post a picture of the cable tomorrow.

Firstly!! Big thank you to Tim, qed, Steve & Steves Papa - funnily they were talking about shifting without using the clutch at the national meet (I'd never heard about it before!! Grin ) without them mentioning it i'd have been stuck beside the road awaiting AA to save my ass!

My bike has 11 or so thousand on the clock and Warranty expired April 2010.

So, I understand a replacement is about a tenner or so? But how hard are they to fit??
DIY jobbie?? Any tips ??

Cheers in advance Smiley Smiley Smiley

hi spank. riding without the clutch is something weve all done. A bit scary but exciting afterwards. Junctions, traffic lights and slowing cars are the worst.

|Fitting a new clutch cable is a piece of p**s. just slacken off the adjusters and replace. You'll prob need to at least take the tank off.

If there are any golden rules I guess one would be route it exactly the same as the original.

Hope this helps.

It was interesting when it broke - gunned it away from a set of lights in a 40mph which quickly changes to a 70mph zone, open the throttle, shifted up and . . . . Nothing!! Clutchless shifted up and was riding along pulling my clutch in and out thinking 'huh??' Cheesy Cheesy

I'll have to pop along to my local yam to get a replacement this Saturday - guess I'm stuck with the pug until then Cheesy
