Get yourself a Trumpet Soffit, then at least you don't have to suffer escalating purchase prices due to the pounds weakness against other currencies. £9k near as dammit for an R6 is a joke - even with the financial situation, a £9k Jap car is mechanically similarly complex, yet contains 5 or 6 times more material by mass, costs more to be shipped across the planet, etc. They're just greedy bar stewards.

Much lower volumes manufactured though with a lot of similar costs

Yes, but the cost isn't escalating at the rate the foreign metal is, and it has better residuals that a lot of the jap stuff, so if Soffit has an eye on his change purse it's the best of several not very attractive options.

I always felt that having owned a Duke was something to keep quiet, like owning a pink Hardly Gaybison with tassled saddlebags.

Yes, why was I thinking of the EX500? It's not like there's much change in the architecture. I think bore centres are even the same spacing. A clever little unit.
It's funny how a 600 barely counts as a middleweight these days, when 40 years back it would've been pretty big.
What's the seat height like on the ER6? Enough room for someone as fa...er, hunky as me? What sort of torque does it churn out? I found my weight overwhelmed the R6 a bi, unless the engine was being ridden 8/10s or higher, which gets a littlw tiresome, which means I still prefer a more sensible 600 which hasn't sacrificed all it's low and mid range for a 10k+ RPM rush.
So many questions!
Im going to have a blast tonight. We went out last night and got pee'd on. There didn't seem to be a low seat height option, but next door to the bike shop is an uphoulsterer and car trimmers.... Having sat on it there seems plenty of room

I saw this on the news. Good idea, but I bet it is a nightmare to ride with all that weight right over the back The Dutch fireservice already use these boxer engines. They have them hooked up to a pump that drives off the crankshaft. Must be quite powerfull on full revs

I have a sense of direction and can pretty much 'wing it' getting to places - But if i'm going somewhere important or have to be somewhere asap i'll always use the Sat Nav. On the Bike however, I like to concentrate on the road and other users and don't really like sign reading and then having to process it all the info (I'm a simple person) So, Sat Nav's for motorbikes? Anyone used them? Ive jailbroken my iPhone (which means I get free apps) so I'll download a few of there Sat Nav apps (TomTom etc. . ) and see how they go. Bu I also know there are specific Nav's for motorcycles (which are a pretty penny) and then there are waterproof holders for standard ones, but then you can't hear the audio, visual onl, which is soo dangerous!!!

If it was me i'd use a car sat nav in a waterproof case, or even in a tank bag with the slot built in. Then just some headphones. If don't want wires you can get bluetooth headphones. Simples

At the meet, I think some people might have noticed my sat nav was playing up a bit. I did a few runs through Stafford Sunday night. Trying to listen to the instruction and watching out for other cars and going where I needed to be. Nightmare! By the 3rd run I switched it off and looked at the signs, had a less stressful drive and knew exactly where I needed to go and what lane to be in. All I needed was name of next town and road number from the road atlas, job was a good un!. Put it this way from campsite to Alton towers and back on Monday was quicker and easier than my sat nav directions. Mind you it is well informed about every single track lane to Alton towers, just lucky it was Sunday night and I never met someone going the other way. I was glad I did a trial run on Sunday night. Sometimes the old traditional ways are best.
