Hi Guys,

My names Amanda, am new to this webpage and these forum,
I have had a look round but need some help,
I have a Blue 107 it's a 57plate had it for 2 years,
Had percy since he was new,
I got my first service after 10months and the exhust was coroded and was advised by my garage this should not happen over a 10month period, to because i was in my 12month warrenty i took the car back to pegot and got a new one, and ran well,
I got another service last April everything fine,
Until leaving work last night it sounded like there was a hole in the exhaust it was very very loud, Cause i don't have breakdown cover i just drove it home and about 3 mins away from home my exhaust droped to the ground i had to tie it with a bit of string to get home lol,
Anyways i am looking for help its sunday peugot grage are closed and i cant call them, go you this it would be covered under some kind of warrenty?
How much would it cost ruffly cost any ideas?
And is there anything i can do to get it to the garage for a temp fix?
Very lastly i ken nothing about cars why would this happen?

Any Help would be greatfull,  Grin

Many Thanks

Welcome to the 107oc. Smiley

Oh dear!! iv just last week had a new Powerflow exhaust put on my 107, i went to the Peugeot dealer before i put it on and they say that the exhaust is only covered under warranty for 2 years and its quite common that after 2/3 years that the exhaust gets a hole in it! as the person from Peugeot that was serving me even told me that his 107's got a hole in the exhaust after 2 and a half years, so this is a quite common thing!.

as i said they told me that the exhaust is only covered under warrentry for 2 years but if you contact them tomorrow and see what they say, this is why i changed mine last week to a stainless steal one that has life time granite! just the back box and tip for £180 and its the best thing iv done! it sounds amazing and iv got the peace of mine that it is covered under life time warrentry as i have had a lot of problems with my 107 with oil leaks, clutch and gear box!

let us know how you get on! and i hope this has help Smiley

Hi Amanda, welcome to the club. By the sound of it, and from experience of my own one, did it break off where the pipe goes into the box. If it did, that part is only 14 months old. They might still say the car is over 2 years old or over 20k miles and no longer covered. (mine was under 2yrs, but more than 20k miles, was told under warranty but then had to pay almost £80 if I remember correctly, due to mileage.) I'd try my luck and see if they would do it as a good will gesture, or even if you only have to pay part of the price. If not you might get a cheaper one from an independent exhaust/tyre outlet. Just the usual problem of work getting in the way of going to garages.
The reason this happens is because the exhaust is made of mild steel, which rusts. From day one it is open to the elements and oxidisation begins, trying to get back to its original form. Part of the exhaust emissions is water vapour. Sometimes you find lower mileage cars need replacing sooner than high because the vapour condenses and sits inside the pipe as a pool of water which of course starts the rot from the inside, so lots of short trips can be bad for it.
When I got my new car, I sorted the problem from day one by fitting a Longlife stainless system from the Cat. (under your feet) back, and put the system off the new one on my old car as it was needing replaced again at 3 years old.
Which way you want to go from here depends on  how deep your pockets are and how long you plan on keeping the car. My stainless system was £385 but that was because I spent £100 extra to have a different style back box and have a tailpipe at each side to look better (in my opinion). Welcome again Amanda and good luck with your dilemma.

P.S. Where about in the country are you from? It didn't say in your profile.

Just to say i'm at 18k in 2yrs 8months and all short journeys; mainly five miles with twenty twice a week. I would assume with a three year warranty they would design to get most cars to the end  without a claim?

This business of garages claiming certain items are outside the blanket warranty always appeared a bit iffy to me. I wouldn't accept it at face value if I was effected. But lets face it most peeps with the sort of knowledge to get you justice are easily bought. Car industry is a bit like the banks - too big too fail and keep all useful info to themselves. Investigative automobile journalists?...don't make me laugh.

Ah! another member North of the border. I had a feeling you may have been from the way you said certain things. Grin   I'm in central Fife myself.
I hope you were able to sort something out during your lunch break.
