Well I really want to learn this stuff, but no one near me knows this stuff, I am considered the mechanical one in my circle of people which is worrying (I| actually was sought out for advice at work on how to change the windscreen wash on an alfa ..bad ) And I seem to be learning everything the hard way, i don't mind breaking a nail or getting dirty.

How would you sort out a broken nail?

Hi SJ, I too was told I needed discs & pads at the 30k service. Below minimum thickness, only by 0.5mm, another mechanic said that he'd leave it till I needed new pads, (they had only been on for 10k) before changing the discs, especially for only 0.5mm. It was just after the 40k service that I fitted the discs. My pads probably get changed more often than yours due to the heavy use they get. Wee quick edit: http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/car/parts_disc.asp?part=disc&make=TOYOTA&model=Aygo&year=1%2E0+%282005%2D%29These are the guys I used. Not saying you should mind you.

stiglet just change the pads, as some one said it is a money making game changing discs,as regards the lip around the edge of the disc this is ok as long as the braking surface is not damaged,if the brakes are used normaly as in your case new pads will be ok.john cw
