Cheesy Get it? Blues? Nevermind    Roll Eyes

Anyway....(have posted this on TOC as well so dont moan if already read it!! ) lol

Well Aygo has gotten a bit of abuse lately, done a lot miles (now just under 30k at just over a year) decided to give a well over due a wash and sorting out, that cost me a tenner, then went to fix the crack in window screen that cost me £30

Then went to Mr T for check up as it was feeling a bit spudgy*

Bought two new front tyres (yes prob should have shopped around but hey ho) (they were at 17k miles)
Told me I need new brake pads and discs  £260 toyota or £180 kwik fit Huh
also need new clutch  but they said that could possibly be fixed under warranty

and my third service is due, was afraid to ask for quote for that   Cheesy

Am not moaning, just all come at once really at wrong time of year. Bye Bye DSLR  Cry

So donations welcome!!   Cheesy Cheesy

SJx

Stig, if you over cook your brakes and put them down too low, it starts to eat into the disc resulting in damage, which will result in a replacement needed.

Edit:

Quick search on the net sounds like your "scarring" your brake discs. This is when the pad has gone below the working limit and where the metal starts to touch the disc resulting in scratching the disc.

So you lost me, my pads are worn so I have hit the disc which is why it needs replacing?

and How am I doing that I just use the break normally, other than a few hits on ABS thanks to idioits pulling out in front of me?

If you have done 30k on one set of pads, its no surprise they have worn out! They dont last forever you know Cheesy

You may well be driving normally, but once the pad has gone past its working limit, it only gets worse from there. You don't want the metal backing of the pad to start hitting the disc as thats what is causing the damage.

Cheesy I didn't expect them to, i was told at last service that they would prob need changing on next service, but the obviously didnt last till then  Huh

I'm sure you would've have definitely noticed the metal to metal scraping sound if you had let the pads wear out, stiglet. So I don't think you've done any damage to the disc.

The mechanics guess whether your pads will last to the next service. Naturally they will consider their own wallet before yours. Even a woman can change pads so are we going to risk breaking a nail gurls?
