I confirm that the best way to do that, is to paint them.
Did you know that when you want to buy some plastic parts (door handles, air vent surroundings) you may choose a "ready for paint" version of them.
I also confirm it need some special care. I think the most important is to clean them the best way possible ... does Oxydrine tell you anything ? I recommend scrubbing them gently but efficiently with the green part of a 3M sponge ! (don't know the equivalent in U.K.)
the most efficient thing to do after that, is to apply a plastic primer, and then the paint.
If you are careful enough, you may have a nice result ... Applying spray paint is quite easy, but you require method ...
in 2 words, you may proceed with short "clouds" of 3 ou 4s while moving the hand over the part at a distance of 30cm at least. Don't stop the movement so that the paint has a even density.
You need to make one spray at a time : one movement and wait for 30s, do it again as many times it takes to fully cover the plastic part ... if you do that, the result should be close to perfect (as perfect you can do with a can !)
I suggest you practice with some other plastic parts ... maybe the frame where your wife has displayed a picture of her mother ?!
If you want the ultimate aspect, you may apply a sprayable varnish after that ... it give the ultimate shining look !
Don't hesitate to get the right color in any car body shop ... there's a sticker on a door frame on your 107 with a 3 letter coulour code : citrus yellow is KBL ! on my 3 door it's glued of the frame of the right door (passenger for me).

I am thinking about having them repainted in a shiny white as well as the steel wheels ! I keep you informed.
