Does anyone know if or when the HDI engine option will be available in the UK?

Don't think Peugeot will bring over the HDi engine model.  As Chris said there is the Aygo diesel or you can get the C1 with the diesel engine but only in 5 door form.

I've driven the 206 and I had a 1007 with the 1.4 HDi engine in it and it was very good, maybe because of the lower power output on the C1 it's been compromised a bit.

It's so lumpy, fast throttle movements send the wastegate crazy!

I am really sad to hear about the feedback on the HDI in the Aygo. I have had 3 206 HDI Vans and they are superb, quick, qiueter than the 107, go to the moon in terms of milage and with a very flat torque curve...that is a shame. It seems the perfect solution but obviously something is lost in translation.

Don't believe everything people tell you, driving a diesel well is different to petrol and someone 'giving it a try' won't have invested the couple of hundred miles it takes to tune in to the power delivery.

Once you do, diesels usually go damn well.  Just totally different style to a petrol car, you change gears around constant revs, not rev all the way up a gear.

I'm sure you understand what I mean Dave, why don't you go try one and report back.

The official line from Peugeot (in a letter to the PSOOC club magazine) is that the HDi will not be sold in the UK.  They point to Citruin, who sell an HDi C1, but have hardly sold any.  This is probably becaue of the £8500ish retail prices - pending an extra £2800 over the cost of the petrol rather negates the point of buying a diesel to save money.

This is possibly a shame, as the HDi is supposed to be a corking engine in the C1.

More to the point, i wanna know whn we are gonna get a bigger petrol engine, or more thrust? The moment they release a Rallye or GTi version i'll be off down the local stealers to get one (though i'll keep the XS for Vikki).

They wont do one, I think it will ruin the charm of the 107.

In regards to the HDi engine its an absolute shocker ask Chris he's driven one

Toyota have now stopped selling the Aygo diesel in this country.  They have a few left but once the stock is sold that's it.  Does sound a shame that the diesel is a shocker.  The 70hp 1.4 HDi is a good engine but can imagine the smaller output isn't great!

I think it was described as

1st gear  No power, no power, no power, no power ALL THE POWER AT ONCE

2nd gear No power no power no power...............

Doesn't surprise me, must only have maybe 30-40hp without the turbo.

Potentially though could be a good engine, if Pug could get a bit more space for components.

As my mate once said to me Its great getting a playstation 2 with your car (Engine size reference)

Rich coming from the guy who drives a Fiesta and used to have a Starlet!
